Day 2: Paro
After breakfast visit the Drugyel Dzong, the ruined fort, which once defended this valley from the Tibetan invasion. This fortress, now a burned shell, was once strategic in Bhutan'\s defense against the Tibetan invasion. Mount Chomolhari, the sacred summit, reaches skyward beyond the Dzong. This can be viewed on a clear day. Also visit the National Museum and the Rinpung Dzong.
Day 3: Paro
This morning follow the winding road beside the Pa Chu (Chu means river or water) down stream to its confluence with the Wang Chu then up-valley to Thimphu, the capital. After lunch visit the Memorial Chorten, dedicated to the Late King, Overnight in hotel.
A full day of sightseeing and shopping in Thimphu. Wander in the town, visit the handicraft emporium. Visit the workshop where all the handicrafts are produced if you like. Afternoon visit Tashichho-Dzong. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Thimphu
The journey to Central Bhutan begins today. The drive to Tongsa takes approximately 7 to 8 hours. Packed lunch will be provided at the hotel. Lunch stop enroute. Overnight at the hotel in Tongsa.
Day 6: Thimphu
Drive to Jakar takes approximately 2 1/2 hours. Tales of great teacher Guru Padmasambhava dominates this holy valley. From the view point you can see Jakar Dzong '\The castle of White Bird'\. Lunch at Tourist Lodge. Afternoon hike upto Lame Gompa, a place built by 1st King for his two nun sisters. Outside of Lame Gompa, one can see the old style of Bhutanese paper making.
Walk in and around Bumthang valley or visit the diary farm, Swiss cheese factory and apple juice factory. Try to get some of each - they are best in Bhutan.
Day 8: Trongsa
The trek route takes you around the Chamkhar Chu, a river known for its richness in trout, lunch stop at Tangbi Lhakhang. Lama Namkha Samdrup build a Gompa (he shot an arrow in the air and at the spot where the arrow landed Nganglakhang was erected). Overnight in camp. Alt. 2,900 mts. Distance 20 Kms about 05/06 hours.
Day 9: Tongsa - Bumthang
Climb gradually to Phephela Pass( Alt. 3,353 mts /11,000 ft.), the highest point on the trek route. The trail you follow until the pass takes you through one of the most beautiful frosted area of this region. Allowing for many stops to enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Day 10: Bumthang
Ascending through the bamboos, hemlock and finally up to the alpine forests. Overnight in camp. Alt. 11,500 ft. Distance - 17 kms, about 05-06 hours.
Day 11: Bumthang
Continue upto Phokpeyla, alt. 12,300 ft. which takes about half an hour. Then continue down hill through the gorge, which is about 10,000 ft down overlooking some mountain valleys and the plains. Towards the camp we meet the pine trees. Distance - 20 kms, about 06-07 hours.
Day 12: Bumthang - Nganglahkhang
This trail is wave trail winding up and down, enroute Drula village and Khaine Lhakhnag, one of the oldest in existence(mid 7th century A.D) built by the 1st King of Tibet, Tshong Tsen Gompa to subdue the demons. Alt. 6,000 ft. Distance 21 kms, about 07-08 hours.
Day 13: Nganglahkhang
Drive upto Lhuntshi. Rest of the time at leisure. O/N at the guest house or in camp. Alt. 6,000 ft.
Day 14: Nganglahkhang
Drive down to Kuri Zam and the trek starts gradually up through the paddy fields and villages. Overnight in camp. Distance - 16 kms, about 04-05 hours. Alt. 6,000 ft.
Day 15: Ugyenchholing
Continue uphill through the thick forest overlooking some mountain views. The camp is under shelter of the forest. Alt 8,000 ft.(approx). Distance - 20 kms, about 06-07 hours.
Day 16: Ugyenchholing
Continue upto Dongla where you can see all the high mountains views. Descending through the thicker green forest till you reach camp site. Alt. 8,000 ft. Distance - 21 kms, about 06-07 hours.
Day 17: Phokpey
The day is one of the longest trek on this day. Gradually down hill till Yangtsi through the chirpine and hard wood forest like Oak of sub-tropical Zone. Overnight in camp. Distance 24 kms about 08-09 hours.
Day 18: Phokpey
The drive takes about 2-3 hours. Overnight in camp or in Guest house.
Day 19: Ungaar
After breakfast you will drive through the villages from where roads starts winding up and down, entering through the cliff, one of the most exciting and adventurous motorable drive. Enroute Deothang Polytechnic college in Bhutan. Now you are in sub-tropical zone. The drive actually takes about 06-07 hours. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 20: Ungaar
The drive takes you about 03-04 hours to Gauhati (Guwahati) to catch the flight for your onward journey.
