    Beckley is a city in Raleigh County, West Virginia, United States.Beckley was named in honor of John James Beckley, who was the first Clerk of the House of Representatives and the first Librarian of Congress. It was founded by his son Alfred Beckley.Beckley is well known for two major tourist attractions: The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and tamarack. The Exhibition Coal Mine is a preserved coal mine that offers daily tours and a history lesson on coal mining in Appalachia.The town''s Main Street features a lovely historic district, walking tours and ample shopping and dining opportunities.

Ride through an authentic 1800''s coal mine via restored "main trip" cars 1,500 feet beneath the surface. Visitors may also stroll through a restored coal camp that features a church, museum, miner''s cottage, country school, and a superintendent''s residence.
Soldiers Memorial Theatre, Civil War sites, shops, antiques, galleries, restaurants and a walking course may all be found in uptown Beckley.
Little Beaver State Park features an 18-acre lake, a recreation building, playground, picnic shelters and areas, and hiking trails.
Daniel Vineyards produces international award winning, estate grown wine from French Hybrid, Swenson Hybrid, and American Varietal grapes. A tasting room, large deck, and a 3,000-square-foot covered pavilion are on site.

Open to the public year round, the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia features a main gallery made up of four railroad boxcars, a central exhibit area which features an average of three different yearly exhibits, a planetarium, the Mountain Homestead, a log cabin, barn, schoolhouse, moonshine still, blacksmith shop, and a country store.
