It is located approximately 160 km southwest of Spokane,and about 40 km south of Interstate 90, at the intersection of SR 17 and SR 26.
The refuge provides a habitat of 23,000 acres in the famous Channeled Scablands of the Columbia River Basin featuring numerous small to medium-sized lakes surrounded by sagebrush and grassy uplands, canyons, and buttes.
Inside this 1908 Presbyterian church the oldest building in town are exhibits on the area`s irrigation, railroad history, the day the lights went out after the eruption of Mt. St. Helens, and the usual pioneer items.
