Ed Leedskalnin sought to escape the pain of being left at the altar by his young bride-to-be by single-handedly quarrying a 28-ton piece of coral, transporting it and building a castle from 1931 until his death in 1951. This Herculean effort was completed without the benefit of heavy equipment, which still amazes scientists, engineers and laymen alike. Just how he moved those rocks still remains unknown.
Located on level ground near shopping, a racetrack and other attractions, Florida City Camp Site & RV Park offers tent and recreational vehicle (RV) campsites with access to amenities including a laundry, pay telephones, a dump station and security fencing. RV sites feature full hookups with 30- and 50-amp electricity. Additional campground amenities include picnic tables and shelters, a recreation hall, playground, shuffleboard and seasonal recreational events.
