The historic City of Trinidad is a Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and the most populous city of Las Animas County, Colorado, United States.Adorning hilly streets, nestled along the banks of the Purgatoire River, is Trinidad, Colorado, a Victorian and adobe city of about 15,000. The longest-known set of dinosaur tracks in the world; petroglyphs and artifacts of prehistoric peoples, are all found nearby. Trinidad offers a rich history filled with stories of Spanish Conquistadors, French trappers, mountain men and the native Americans who all camped along the beautiful river valley. One of the hell-raising towns of the old west, Trinidad was headquarters for the famous Prairie Land & Cattle Company.
Cokedale is a wonderful example of an intact coal camp, one of the few that remained standing after mining operations were abandoned. The numbered company houses and old company buildings were once familiar sights throughout Southern Colorado coal camps.
Located in an original Victorian firehouse, this museum contains former city jails, a historic fire truck and equipment, an early school room, antique clothing and toys, and a model train diorama.
