The natural beauty of this swampy area has been developed into a striking exhibit that features a half-mile elevated wooden walkway providing easy access through the garden. Various trees, wildflowers, shrubs, ferns and other wetland plants can be examined as you stroll through the grounds.
Historically and architecturally significant, this former home to state governor John Motley Morehead is registered as a National Historic Landmark. Originally a Federal style clapboard house, architect Alexander Jackson Davis designed and added to the structure in 1846, creating what is now the oldest example of Italianate architecture in the United States.
