The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is a museum of seashells and conchology located in the city of Sanibel, Florida on Sanibel Island on the Gulf coast of Southwest Florida.Sanibel Island is one of the better seashell collecting spots in the world.
Sanibel Historical Village consists of a reconstructed pioneer village including a 1913 Cracker house, a general store from 1927, the 1926 Post Office and a 1927 tearoom. The house contains exhibits that trace local history from the time of the Calusa Indians up to pioneer settlement in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Established in 1945, this wildlife refuge occupies one-third of Sanibel Island and is a prime spot for birdwatching.
Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation works to preserve the natural resources and wildlife habitat on and around Sanibel and Captiva. Guided nature trails, a butterfly house, touch tank, displays of the area wetlands are part of the foundation exhibits.
Perhaps the most photographed structure on Sanibel, the Sanibel Lighthouse was first lit in August 1884.Offers a storied history, unusual architecture.
