Up at the end of Alum Rock Avenue, the park is buried in the foothills east of San Jose; on the drive there, you pass some impressive mansions. There are playgrounds and miles of trails. Children''s Discovery Museum has two floors'' worth of exhibits and activities, including a history of bubbles, face painting and all sorts of things to keep children busy and thinking. The museum is a giant, structure straddling the Guadalupe River Park,so picnics are a common for visitors.
Located in Kelly Park, Happy Hollow Park and Zoo is great for the kids, with numerous rides and amusements as well as many exotic animals. Chief among the attractions at San Jose''s Hollow Park and Zoo are the carousels and puppet castle theater, while the play and picnic areas add an extra dimension for the whole family. In addition, the zoo has a contact area where you can touch some of the more friendly animals.
Located in Kelley Park , this garden is modeled after Korakuen Park in Okayama, Japan, which is one of San Jose''s sister cities. In a very peaceful, relaxing setting, enjoy the unique bridges, ponds and pathways that exquisitely demonstrate the fine art of classic Japanese landscape gardening. You can even feed the fish. You will always be immersed in a wide variety of colors, varying from wisteria lavenders to azalea pinks and depending on the season.
This spacious outdoor facility will please everyone, which explains the half a million visitors that come here every year. You can exercise, play horseshoes or volleyball, and even go sailing or fishing. Or just enjoy the fabulous sunshine in one of the few fog-free places in the Bay Area.
San Jose''s Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium has a permanent display of mummies, both human and animal, as well as jewelry, bronze tools, pottery and funerary boats. The museum is an educational organization stemming from the ancient Egyptians and one of the most interesting attractions here is the replica of a tomb of an important Egyptian.
Thousands visit this park each year to view the beautiful varieties of roses in a profusion of colors and types. A very colorful location, San Jose Municipal Rose Garden also includes a few fountains and a reflecting pool, making it a great spot for a quiet stroll—even if you aren''t a rose aficionado.
Winchester Mystery House is a monumental mansion that took 38 years of continual construction to complete and includes 160 rooms, with such oddities and attractions as blank walls behind doors, a staircase that goes nowhere and 13 bathrooms, 13 chandeliers and 13 palm trees on the driveway.
