Istanbul Toy Museum is situated inside a historic wooden mansion in Goztepe on the Asian side of the city. Founded by renowned Turkish author and poet, Sunay Akin, the Toy Museum houses a collection of over 4,000 toys belonging to Akin''''s own personal collection from around the world.
The white wooden exterior of the Museum is dotted in fairy lights and provides for an inviting welcome. Inside, stage designer Ayhan Dogan is responsible for the decor and displays, and each room is graced with a unique design. The gallery of space toys, for example, has stars which shine from the ceiling and miniature train sets are exhibited inside genuine train compartments.
The Toy Museum is set over four floors, and some of its more well known toys include its oldest resident, a miniature violin from France which dates to 1817. There is also an extensive collection of porcelain dolls and tin toys.
Also on display is the former Eyup Toy Shop which closed down in the 1950''''s and is now shown on the ground floor of the Museum.
There is an on-site 70-seat theatre, cafe and a gift shop which sells Sunay Akin''''s works and souvenirs.
