The Acheen St Mosque is unusual for its Egyptian-style minaret.Built in 1808 by a wealthy Arab trader, the mosque was the focal point for the Malay and Arab traders in this quarter - the oldest Malay kampung (village) in Georgetown.
Housed in an attractively renovated traditional town house, the Alpha Utara Gallery was opened in 2005 as an exhibition space for paintings by contemporary local artists, based around the works of Penang-born artist Khoo Sui Hoe.
Among Penang`s oldest sights are the timeworn walls of Fort Cornwallis.
