It was built by Portuguese in the 16th century.It was a master piece of that time.It is greatest tourist attraction in Mombasa. The fort has a museum displays various artifacts.You can view also torture rooms,cells,various weapons,collection of ceramics and pottery,Portugese frigate,relics,Omani jewelry etc can also be seen here.
It was a small town made up of rocks and stones here lived Swahili people.The ruins are date back from 15th century. The houses in Gedi have a traditional Swahili pattern. A water system and a large number of wells are still visible on the site.
Hindu temples shows the wide diversity of Mombasa culture.Stone carvings can be seen on the walls of temples.
