Description
This small tea garden town of the southern state of Tamilnadu is fast becoming one of the major hill stations of the south. Its proximity to the nearby Nilgiri Hills and its location in the Deodatta range has blessed this place with a soothing weather, helping the beautiful green meadows and the wonderful Rhodendrons to grow. Coonoor therefore is giving a stiff competition to its neighbour, the world famous hill station of Ooty. Today a major number of tourists frequent this place in search of unexplored beauty of the hill station, which Coonoor has in plenty to offer.
Location
Perched at the height of 1850 meters above sea level at the head of the Hulikal Ravine, Coonoor is the second largest hill station located in the Nilgiri hills. Located in the western part of the state of Tamilnadu, it is hardly 20 kms away from the world famous hill station of Ooty.
Climate
The climate in Coonoor is pleasant throughout the year and hence can be visited through out the year.
Sim's Park is a carefully planned and artistically laid park cum botanical garden on the slopes of a ravine with hundreds of rose varieties. An annual Fruit and Vegetable show is held here in May. The view of the Coimbatore planes from Lamb's Rock is breathtaking and the prime attraction for the visitors.
Dolphin's Nose has spectacular views onto St. Catherine's falls on one side and Coonoor and Kotagiri streams, tributaries of the Bhavani, on the other. Situated at 12 Km from Coonoor.
