Moradabad termed, as the city of Brass, is famous for its brassware and other handicrafts items. Situated along the banks of Ram Ganga River, Moradabad is hardly 150 kms from the capital of the country, Delhi. The history of the city says that a Mughal General named Rustam Khan founded it in the early 17th century. He named it after the son of Shah Jehan, Murad meaning wish. He also built a fort, which is ruins today and the Jama Masjid in the town. <br />Located on the main railway junction and road intersections, Moradabad has been the hub of trade activities since past. Today it is famous for the beautiful brassware and has become synonym to metal art ware. It is specially noted for its coloured enameling and intricate engravings, which is done on tinned surface where the indentations are from a pattern while the simpler ones are from memory. Despite all the computerization and modernization in the Moradabad craftsmen still have the skill to produce some of the finest and most intricate artworks on brass by their bare hands.
