Located on the banks of Barak River, Silchar is an important communication and commercial centre of the North East Region. Silchar proves to be vital for those far off states in the North East, which do not have rail or air route. Normally the essential commodities to these states like, Tripura, Manipur and Meghalay are delivered through Silchar. This small humid town, having sultry climate nearly throughout the year is the lifeline of the states, which are not easily reached. The small airport is the farthest, which can be used for the important places in the states like Tripura, Meghalay and Manipur.
