Anandpur Sahib has been the one of the most important pilgrimages for the Sikh followers for many reasons. It was here that Guru Gobind Singh baptized the first five Sikhs, the "Panch Pyaras". This place has a number of historical Gurudwaras, with a backdrop of Naina Devi Hill. On the day following the festival of Holi, devotees flock to Anandpur Sahib, to participate in the Hola Mohalla celebrations, re-enacting Sikh battles of yore, with ancient arms and weapons.
Location
Situated on the left bank of river Sutlej at a distance of 41 km from Ropar is Anandpur Sahib and is about 75 kms northwest of Chandigarh.
Anandpur Sahib, the abode of happiness and peace with its numerous Gurudwaras stands out in the picturesque background against the Naina Devi mountain range. This is place was founded by the ninth teacher of the Sikh, Guru Tegh Bahadur. It is also famous for the place where the tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh baptised the first five Sikhs called Panj Piare. Other than its innuemrous Gurudwaras and historic importance, the city is famous for the different celebration of the Holi festival as the Hola Mohalla.
