Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany, is one Germany's oldest towns, founded by the Romans in 179 A.D. Today Regensburg is a prospering city with about 150.000 inhabitants, 3 universities and many landmarks, most dated to the Middle Ages (e.g. the Cathedral of St. Peter, Old City Hall and Imperial Diet, and the Stone Bridge). Since July 2006 the old city of Regensburg has been a UNESCO world heritage site

It is located at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers, at the northernmost bend in the Danube.
The Porta Praetoria ranks alongside the Porta Nigra in Trier as the largest preserved Roman building in Germany. In was built in around AD 179 under Emperor Marcus Aurelius during the construction of the Roman fort Castra Regina
The colourful stained glass windows dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries are particularly impressive. The most notable feature of the cloisters, once a burial place for Regensburg residents and canons, is the Gothic rib-vault ceiling. The All Saints Chapel designed by north Italian architects evokes associations with Ravenna.
The heavily laden carts of the rich Regensburg trading merchants were crossing the 330 metre “Steinerne Brücke”, a masterpiece of medieval engineering, 850 years ago. It is the oldest preserved stone bridge in Germany, and affords the best view of the town .
