Formosa is the capital city of the Argentine province of Formosa.Formosa is the hub of the provincial industry, that processes the product of its natural resources.The main sights of the city include the Nuestra Senora del Carmen Cathedral, the Government House, the Torelli Botanic Forest Garden, the Provincial History Museum,the Estadio Centenario football stadium, the Guaicole fauna reserve, the shore of the Paraguay River, the Isla de Oro Island, and the Central Square named after José de San Martín.
Six kilometers south of town, Laguna Oca is a wetland area that has a popular beach, with food kiosks and canoe hire; once you wander away from the weekend crowds, there''s a great deal of birdlife to be spotted.
In Casa Fotheringham, a pioneer residence that was the province`s first government house, the Museo Historico focuses on the foundation and development of Formosa. It`s small and well-organized. The province was part of the Paraguayan Chaco until the 19th-century War of the Triple Alliance, and the museum also houses uniforms, weapons and relics from the period. There are a few old indigenous weavings as well.
